Report on Personal Assistant Training (PAT) and Mini-TRY event

Hold from 19~21 May, 2010

The Phnom Penh Center for Independent Living (PPCIL) had held Personal Assistant Training (PAT) for assisting people with severe with disability on 19-21 May, 2010.


This training has invite high school and university students in Phnom Penh city totally 6 people to participated. In the opening, executive director of PPCIL has warm welcome and appreciated to high school and university students that taking the valued time in their studies to take in part with this PA training for assisting people with severe disability. PPCIL director he also inform that, in Cambodia has no this program and the PA program is really new program which establishing by PPCIL. The Phnom Penh Center for Independent Living has see the needs and difficulties of people with severe disability to resolved these problems PPCIL has created this program aims to facilitate for people with severe with disabilities in daily living, working with hope and happy, equality with dignity and be able to communicate with community people by using personal assistant system. However, PA system be making closer between people non-disability and PWDs and to approach without discimination in order to participate in any society activities. Especially, training course has also impregnation on people with disability conept and PWDs movement to trainees.


Our great pleasured that, has conduct PA training purspose to change people with disability society through participation. Through PAT we will change negative thinking on disability.

Of course, we need to change society not by one side. Actually, we need two of directions, one side is people non-disabilities and other one side is people with disability together we sure that can changed. The subject of training are; method of transformation by transfor from bed to wheelchair and from wheelchair to bed, take shower, assisting having meal, clean teeths, changing clothes and assist to push wheelchair to move ect… in training course also tell to trainees that, PPCIL has consultant service with PWDs in community and moreover all high school and univesity students when they finished this training they will back shool to share with their friends.

 


 


In clarification, after 3 days trainig, all trainees and PPCIL’s staffs had organized the Mini-TRY to disseminate the activities of PPCIL and practicing on subject how to assisting wheelchair user by working along public places which have 21 participants to participated in the event.



The Mini-TRY starting from PPCIL’s office by across small roads in village and the Russian Boulevard, factories, market and schools. Even if, the weather getting very hot and we walking on difficult road but we still happy with hope and smile. The main aims of the event to show to community people about disability movement in order to decrease all kind of disciminations and integration of disability in social action, economic and cutural life in communities and also mobilize action to achieve the goal of full and equal enjoyment of human rights and their fully participation in society. We also to promote the public understanding of disability, to declare the rights of persons with disabilities, to mobilize support for the dignity, rights and well-being of persons with disabilities.


After Mini-TRY was finished and reached the goal in sucessfully and happy, Ms. Chenda she is high school student had thanking with impression of the event that, people with disabilities movement is very important because before I never know at all concerning on persons with disability society and especially, PA training. So I would like to suggest that people with disability themselves should try to making more strongly advocacy campaign to spread out the disability concept into society.

To encourage to students who had tried of their best to achieved 3 days training PPCIL’s executive director has award the certificate to all trainees. This training was closing with happy and solidarity with new ideas. We are all strongly hoping that this TRY movement will become more big and more active in Cambodia in the near future.
